Addressing Industry Paint Issues with Trudi Weickum

The power washing industry faces persistent challenges, particularly when dealing with painted surfaces. One of the most significant concerns is Pigment Failing, which can lead to unexpected color changes after washing. These issues often arise when a surface turns a surprising color, such as green, following a cleaning. Unfortunately, the belief that the problem will resolve once the surface dries or with a second application is usually mistaken. More often than not, a drastic color change means that the surface will require a complete repaint—a costly undertaking that can range from $17,000 to $25,000 or more.

Pigment Issues Across a Range of Colors

This problem is widespread and affects a broad spectrum of paint colors, including blues, tans, pinks, reds, yellows, purples, and whites. The culprit often lies in the pigments used in the paint, with magenta being a common offender, though it’s not the only one. The potential for these issues underscores the importance of conducting a small, inconspicuous test spot before starting any power washing job. Proper testing can prevent significant damage and financial liability, especially considering that waivers, often relied upon by contractors, may not hold up in court. Amidst these industry challenges,

Trudi Weickum has emerged as a key figure in addressing and educating others about paint issues related to power washing. Trudi, alongside her husband Shane, has been a pillar of the power washing community in the Panhandle area for over 20 years. Their journey began when they recognized the lack of local supply stores and started buying power washing supplies in bulk to help local contractors. What began as a small garage shop has since expanded into Panhandle Power Wash Supply, a full-scale warehouse serving clients nationwide.

Trudi’s Educational Role in the Power Washing Industry

Trudi's influence has been instrumental in the growth of their business, but her commitment

extends far beyond operations. She is deeply involved in the industry, traveling across the

country to educate contractors about the risks and impacts associated with paint oxidation and other related issues. Her dedication to spreading awareness and ensuring that others understand these critical challenges is evident in her role as an Educational Sponsor at the upcoming PowerClean PWNA Convention in Orlando, Florida, in 2024. At this event, she will be a featured speaker in the PWNA House Washing Certification Class, where she will continue her mission to elevate industry standards and protect both contractors and their clients.

Trudi Weickum's contributions to the power washing industry are profound. Her efforts to educate and inform have helped shape the future of the industry, ensuring that contractors are equipped with the knowledge and tools they need to avoid costly mistakes. By advocating for proper testing and precautionary measures, Trudi is not just protecting businesses—she’s safeguarding the homes and properties that are entrusted to the care of power washing professionals.
